What is AFS
What is AFS? It is a volunteer organization which is a member of Department of the Public Information of Association of International exchanges UNO. The history of AFS began on the First World War fields when 15 young Americans adapted ambulance cars for export of wounded men from battle fields without paying any attention which army they belong to. The International exchanges began in 1947. The main point of the basic program is an exchange of seniour pupils of 15-18 years who live in a host family and study at a local school. The uniqueness of the program is that spending a year in the country with another culture, language and a way of life, a young man has an opportunity to realize all abilities and to communicate with people of different culture and traditions. In order to our grammar-school students to have an opportunity to realize themselves as a part of the international community, the administration has worked hard to become participants of the project "Intercultura" (foreign students in Russia). Thus, in 2009-2010 school year the schoolgirl of the 10th form Nabiullina Kamilla studied in Germany, and 3 AFS-students studied at our school: Romina Vanzella from Italy, Alex Jahns from the USA, Pretipat Siriourthen from Thailand. The purpose of their arrival was to study the Russian language and our culture. We want our students to be tolerant, be able to easily communicate with people of other cultures, different mentality. At the end of the school year the AFS-students successfully passed the exams in Russian and other subjects which they had studied at our school. This year two AFS-students are studying at our school - from Chili and Hungary. They like Russia, Kazan and our school very much. Sebastian, who didn't know any Russian word at all, now is able to speak Russian quite well.
